GAMBLING

Gambling is one of the most problem in the undeveloped country due to the unemployment. People do not have Job. So, most of the young and elderly people including women spend their time in gambling. such as playing in the Casino, playing cards, chess, snooker/pool/ and carom-board and dice (kind of game popular in India and Nepal). Not only these games, but whatever the game that bet with money is called gambling. 

The New Encyclopaedia Britannica. 15th ed. 32 vols. Chicago: Encyclopaedia Britannica, 1994. Define gambling this way, The betting or staking of something of value, with consciousness of risk and hope of gain, on the out come of game, a contest or an uncertain event the result of which may be determined by chance or accident or have an unexpected result by reason of the bettor’s miscalculation. 

I choose this topic because I was also a gambler, I was a geek of gambling. Many times I loose the money that was given by my parents to perches food for the family, they were waiting for me that I would bring rice, so that they could cook, but I was not shown up because I already loose the money in cards. Many times I spend the money which was given to pay my tuition fee in the school. Two times I was in the police custody because of gambling. My secular friends surprise to see this Blog, But the fact is, I already quit and I will never play again.

Last May I was In Nepal, I saw the Protest of the Casino employees demanding for resuming the Casino which was closed by government due to not paying the taxes. 

More than 11,000 employees were benefited from the Casinos but now their job is in stake. This effect not only the employees but also the income from the tourist. http://asia.nikkei.com/print/article/40675 It says that more than 100 thousand tourists canceled their reservation. It was the great loss of our economic. 

We see in the Mahabarata that the Yudhisthtra lose his wealth, kingdom, servant, brethren and wife in gambling. http://www.narach.com/philosophy/mahabharata_and_the_gambling_match.htm 

Today many people suffer because of gambling, they lost their wealth and cause them to steel other property, even they are ready to take lives of other people because of money. The Nepali proverbs says that gambler’s wife will be happy only in the blue moon and rest of the time she will be sad. One writer said that “At the end of the game all goes to the box” it is true there is one percent chance in winning and 99% loosing. There is no record that casino lose and player taken everything. Bible never support of gambling nor mention the word gambling in the scripture, but the living bible interpreted as “wealth from gambling quickly disappears” (Prov. 13:11). When bible does not speak about gambling, it doesn't mean we can gamble.

Most of the country legalize gambling, as long as they pay the royalty to the government. Government are benefited but they are not able to control the bad impact in the society that brought by the so called gambler. It destroy the human dignity and it has a corrupting impact on the society.
